Wind Chime

Make music with the wind!  By reusing plastic lids and adding jingle bells, you can create a beautiful wind chime that will alert you of a cool breeze.  Hang your creation outside your window and enjoy nature’s melody.

What You Need

  1. Scissors
  2. Hole punch
  3. Plastic Tupperware lids
  4. Fishing line, string or yarn
  5. A stick about 1 foot long
  6. Jingle bells
  7. Optional: beads

What You Do

Cut the rims off of your plastic lid(s).

Draw shapes with a permanent marker or pen on the plastic lids. (Try leaves, animals, or flowers.)

Cut out the shapes.

If you like, draw some designs on your shapes.  (I drew veins on my leaves.)

Use a hole punch to make a hole at the top and the bottom of each plastic shape.

Cut one string (about 1 foot long) for each plastic shape. step_6.jpeg
Tie one end of the string to the top of your shape. step_7_and_8.jpeg
If you would like, tie beads on the string for decoration.  Once you are done with your decorations, tie the opposite ends of the strings to the stick.

Tie jingle bells to the bottom of your plastic shapes.

To make a hanger, tie a piece of string to each end of the stick.
