Mystery # 13

Calling All Detectives!
Can you solve a Mystery?

Guess who I am using the clues below. I could be a plant, animal, bird, tree, insect, arachnid (spiders), or amphibian found in Colorado. (Look for the answer in next month’s newsletter as well as a new mystery!)

I carry my shelter on my back.

When I am scared or feel threatened, I slip my arms, legs, and head into my hard shell to stay safe.

I’m a quadruped (meaning I have four legs).

I am a part of the reptile family and have scaly skin.

You will find me both on land and in the water—you may even catch me swimming in the South Platte River!

Who am I???
